Back in the 1930's, the Volkswagen Beetle was labelled the “People’s Car,” due to its affordable price for the German public. Time and time again, the Beetle keeps on proving that it is indeed, still the Peoples car. This car not only has loads of character that you will fall in love with, but also has user-friendly interior controls. With an average pricing of around $20,000, what’s not to love about the Beetle?
Beetle History
The Volkswagen Beetle has come a long way since its first model created all those years ago. The original Beetle was a car affordable for the general public, and had an engine displacement that could range from 1.1 to 1.6 liters allowing the car to go 25 to 60 hp depending on the model year and tuning. The only similarities the original Beetle and the new Beetle have are that same classic shape. The modern Beetle has gone through many changes, by having a new model every couple of years that is better than the last. In 1999, Volkswagen came out with the “New Beetle” model that featured a 115-hp 2.0-liter gas engine or a 90-hp 1.9-liter turbo diesel. A little while after its release date other engines came to be available, this included a new base 150-hp 2.5-liter I-5 and a 150-180-hp 1.8-liter turbocharged I-4 in the Turbo S. In 2012, it was time for another Beetle model, this time simply called the “Volkswagen Beetle.” This led to a base engine of a 170-hp version of the 2.5-liter I-5, while the Turbo model was now powered by a 200-hp 2.0-liter turbo I-4. Even though the Beetle is not a sports car, it has proven to be a definite upgrade from the New Beetle.
